The Banister Fletcher Global Fellowship 2026 is now open for applications. Hosted by the University of London Institute in Paris (ULIP), this unique international research fellowship invites urban scholars, architects, policy experts, and creative practitioners to engage with two of the world’s most dynamic cities — London and Paris.
What is the Banister Fletcher Fellowship?
Established as a partnership between ULIP, the School of Advanced Study, and leading UK universities, this global fellowship facilitates:
- Comparative urban research across London and Paris
- Public programming: lectures, workshops, exhibitions, and roundtables
- Contributions to an open-access urban archive (video, audio, and written content)
- Integration into interdisciplinary training within the UK’s research landscape

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Hold a PhD or demonstrate equivalent expertise through professional or creative practice
- Have a strong track record in urban studies, architecture, or related disciplines
- Submit a project proposal aligned with the fellowship’s objectives (including events or workshops in London and/or Paris)
- Be academically affiliated or independent researchers (including postdocs, freelancers, or early-career scholars)
- Be able to collaborate internationally and contribute to public knowledge and inclusive research
- Applications from underrepresented groups are highly encouraged.
